McMullen is a sexy Scotsman who certainly knows how to host a show and has become one of Australia’s most wanted exports and leading TV personalities. He is a comedian, TV host, writer, producer, actor and radio jock.
McMullen has hosted, written and produced national shows on network and cable television in Australia, New Zealand, Canada the US and the UK. 2012 started with a bang as McMullen debuted on his first UK primetime slot on BBC1 as host of the extremely popular Saturday night live entertainment show, The Magicians. Following last year’s ratings success, the 2012 series of The Magicians was extended to six 75-minute shows with audience numbers over 6 million.
In 2011, NBC snatched up Darren as host of the new American summer adventure dating show Love in the Wild filmed in the jungle of Costa Rica which went to air in the US and on CTV in Canada. The show is a mash up of Survivor and The Bachelor, with a little Temptation Island sprinkled on top and was a ratings smash. Right now McMullen serves as host on The Voice Australia, Nine Network’s reality vocal competition series that searches for the nation’s best voice.
Scottish-born and Australia-raised McMullen began his career hosting a monthly car show called Ignition. It was an absolute hit with car lovers and a great jump start to his career in front of the camera. McMullen’s next job on the box was hosting Arena TV’s Exclusive, a show that he helped create. It was similar to Entertainment Tonight and saw him cozying up to some of the biggest names in the industry…. namely Pamela Anderson, who was unable to resist the cheeky Scot and launched herself across the couch to pash him, mid interview!
The Arena gig saw him breaking boundaries left, right and centre – from crashing the stage at Eskimo Joe’s ‘Homebake’ performance to getting arrested at a Robbie Williams’ concert, and even turning the crowd on Johnny Knoxville at his own premiere, dressed as one of his alter egos Jean Pierre!
